NOW Hiring: Florida Department of Corrections Hosts Job Fair
The Florida Department of Corrections is hosting a job fair to hire correctional officers. The event will be held Friday, Aug. 19, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Central Office Building. Applicants should bring a legible copy of their social security card, high school diploma, GED or college transcripts. In addition to their social security card, applicants should bring a driver’s license, birth certificate, and a copy of their license or GED.
On October 29, the agency will host a recruitment event at the North Florida Fairgrounds. The event will feature information on careers with the Department of Corrections and offer opportunities to those in need of help. Attendees should bring a social security card or photo ID to qualify for employment. There will also be resume writing services and driver license services at the event. The Florida Department of Prisons employs nearly 145,000 people and operates the third largest state prison system in the United States.

The company is also hiring a number of administrative assistants in the Capital Region. In the meantime, it is expanding its facility to create a new headquarters in Tallahassee.
In addition to job fairs, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity releases its latest regional unemployment statistics. In September 2018, the Capital Region had a total of 5,484 unemployed residents. The highest unemployment rate in the Capital Region was Gadsden County, with a total of 12,8484 unemployed citizens. At the same time, Wakulla County had the lowest unemployment rate in the state.

The Department of Economic Opportunity has awarded a National Dislocated Worker Grant for COVID-19 to CareerSource Capital Region. The Center will create an additional 50-million-square-foot distribution center. The new facility will also create a technology hub. Ultimately, the new location will house hundreds of jobs. It will also house an Airbnb. During the fair, prospective workers will have the chance to interview with employers.
